Research on the Symbiotic Integration Mechanism of “Foreign Language + Industry” in Internationalized Talent Cultivation at Application-Oriented Universities
To explore the mechanisms underlying the integration of “foreign language + industry”, this study develops a conceptual model based on Symbiosis Theory (ST) and Competency-Based Education Theory (CBET), incorporating Curriculum and Instruction (CI), Faculty and Industry Alignment (FIA), University-Enterprise Cooperation and Institutional Support (UECIS), and Integration Outcome (IO). Data were collected from 618 valid questionnaires completed by foreign language students at an application-oriented university in China, and structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to examine the hypothesized relationships and mediation effects. The results show that CI has a significant positive effect on FIA and IO, while FIA has a significant positive effect on IO. UECIS exerts significant positive effects on both FIA and IO. Moreover, FIA significantly mediates the relationship between CI and IO, while UECIS influences IO both directly and indirectly through FIA. Finally, the findings indicate that “foreign language+industry” integration is a systematic and faculty-mediated process supported by university-enterprise cooperation and institutional mechanisms. The study provides empirical evidence for optimizing curriculum design, strengthening faculty-industry alignment, and deepening university-enterprise cooperation in the cultivation of internationalized interdisciplinary talents at application-oriented universities.
