Doctoral education, representing the pinnacle of talent development within higher education, serves as a quintessential showcase of a nation’s higher education and research benchmarks. This study undertakes empirical research by examining the evolution and transformation of doctoral qualifying examinations in Western developed countries, while also scrutinizing the pilot initiatives of such examinations in China. The objective is to delve into the implications for doctoral education cultivation in the country, ultimately striving to elevate the quality and international standing of doctoral education.
